In 2006, auDA created second level domains (2LDs) for all the Australian states and territories - act.au, nsw.au, qld.au, sa.au, tas.au, wa.au, vic.au, nt.au. Names that can be registered in these 2LDs are address localities in the relevant state/territory, e.g. subiaco.wa.au, carlton.vic.au, alicesprings.nt.au, etc.
.au Community Domains Pty Ltd was a not-for-profit company acting as trustee of the .au Community Domains Trust (auCD). It was established by auDA in 2006 to facilitate the development of Community Geographic Domain Names (CGDNs), and was funded from the proceeds of the commercial geographic domain names ballot held by auDA in 2005.
The auCD company was wound up on 30th June 2010. auDA is continuing to support the initiative within their operations as part of their community programs activities.
