Gheerulla now has a voice for its history to be told

09/Feb/2009

The small Queensland community of Gheerulla can now be viewed anywhere in the world with the launch of its community website on Friday February 6th.

The new website gives a voice to this small rural community at www.gheerulla.qld.au to enable its history to be told, its current activities to be advertised and its achievements broadcast.

Gheerulla is a small community situated in the Sunshine Coast Hinterlands   - surrounded by a number of better known tourist spots. The locality is 21km from Eumundi, home of the Eumundi Markets but is rarely mentioned in the advertising brochures as a "must see" place.. It is 41km from Noosa and only 5 km from Kenilworth of cheese fame, situated in the heart of the Mary River Valley.

"The website has been established to preserve our history, acknowledge the industry of our forebears and to enable newcomers to our district to become familiar with our community facilities.

We have received support from local businesses in the community and from the staff at the Sunshine Coast Regional Council Cemeteries division. A large number of families associated with the district assisted greatly in the research required to gather the information on the database attached to the cemetery page and the memorial stones in Pioneer Park.” Said Lenore Meldrum
